Charley is a private and secure chatbot that provides users with personalized information about abortion options, including different abortion care methods, nearby clinics, accessing abortion pills by mail, and referrals to support services. It's a user-friendly, judgment-free, and confidential tool designed by abortion experts for abortion seekers to help them understand all available options, even in states that restrict access.

How did Charley come to exist?

Charley was developed as a result of a 2022 research initiative following the fall of Roe. We analyzed over 300,000 monthly online searches to understand the online search experience of abortion seekers. We found that top results often lack a clear pathway to accessing abortion care. While accurate information is available, many websites fail to guide abortion seekers on obtaining care from restricted states, leaving abortion seekers struggling to piece together information from across the web. Charley, the chatbot, emerged as a solution to this issue.
